Found a rock stack near a camping site I thought I would share. These really are beautiful woods.
Easy 1/2 mile hike to a beautiful waterfall coming from the south end of the trail.
The waterfall itself is alright as far as waterfalls go, a bit unimpressive. In the winter it produces wonderful ice crystals and in the spring amazing flowers. The plants, fungi, and drive up over the ridge are the highlight here. This is a difficult hike from the parkway. Easier access from the other side of Pisgah but out of the way for most people.
Hiked the 4 mile hike from the Visitor Center yesterday and got lost. There are so many downed trees covering the trail that you think the trail has vanished. Finally I reached a place where the trail simply vanished. I felt like I had hiked over 4 miles (and passed 3 areas with water) so perhaps it wasn't the trail anymore, but this trail definitely needs to be cleared again.
Nice falls I did the 4 mile hike from the Craggy Gardens visitor center. The 4 miles to the falls is mostly down hill, but as a result the 4 miles back is mostly up hill. There is a pretty steep portion leading down to the falls. Everyone else there had taken a 0.5 mile hike from a nearby parking area.
I did the 4 mile hike today from the visitor center to the falls. It was a perfect day. There are several large trees down and they are actively trying to clear them. All of them are passable however.
